The second part of our trip took us to the incredible town of Furnas, situated inside an active volcanic caldera. Amazing right? The entire town has little bubbling ponds and steam rising from holes in the ground. Hot enough to actually cook your food! But more on that later in this post.
Our first stop was to soak in the iron rich, yellow hot springs at Terra Nostra, built in 1708, followed by a cold glass of green wine on a nearby deck. We again saw more of the pilgrims chanting and walking the island, and in the heat it did not look easy. We also had on of the best steak dinners at Caldeiras & Vulcões followed by fresh grilled pineapple in a brown sugar, butter sauce. It was so good I may have passed out from the tastiness...
